Happy Places!

Life is not always fair.  I’m sure you’ve heard that before or even said so yourself.  Yes, bad things do happen to good people.   Sounding clichéd, right?  I know, but sometimes in a happy place you just forget about clichés and if they help you to treasure the moment, then so be it.  I’ve come to realise that in everything, no matter how low, sad, crazy or difficult it gets, there’s always a happy place.

Happy places are some of the simple things of life that add meaning.  It’s going back to the things you loved doing but ‘backburnered’ because you were too ‘busy’ or perhaps too scared to work on because you doubted your ability to succeed at it.  It’s something you can always retreat to and find satisfaction doing when the cards are stacked against you. Can’t believe I just used another cliché.  I guess by now you’ve worked it out that using words (writing or speaking) is one of my happy places.  Ah the beauty of words!

  Happy places!

I’ve been finding more and more happy places these days.  Being out of the world of fulltime employment has enabled me to do that.  So you’re wondering-is she retired?  Well no I’m not.  But since you still want to know, I’ll tell you that my last workplace is restructuring and my services are no longer required.  I know you won’t believe it if I said that’s a happy place so I’ll spare you.  But truth be told even losing your job can take you to happy places.

Today I found yet more happy places, recalling childhood memories of toting water on World Water Day!  Who knew that such ‘torture’ as I saw it then would become one of my happy places?  It took me back right home and humbled my spirit appreciating how far I’ve travelled and yet how much further I still have to go.  I also enjoyed another happy place chatting with one of my past students.  He had me for a while figuring exactly who he was.   The happy place was there so it was just a matter of time.  You can’t force happy places.  They just happen, like today.  I revisited MSS-a happy place for me.  I couldn’t stop smiling.   I recalled first loves-my own and yes that of many of my students’.  Happy places!
Yes we all have happy places.  I keep finding mine.  You can too.  Keep looking for your happy places.
