Single Parenting

It always amazes me that so many people believe that growing up with one parent is the worse thing that could happen to a child.

So many of us have been raised by just our Moms , or our Dads and have turned out to be remarkable people.

People despise  single parenting so much that they would rather see a child be raised by two bitter people who have not an ounce of love for each other. They would rather be in abusive situations than take on the 'shame' of being alone.

Then we turn around and wonder why so many people seem not to understand how to show love to their spouses, why so many women and men end up in abusive situations.

I am confused is a child better off being raised by parentS who cannot teach them how to love, rather than by a parent who despite their situation teaches them not just to love, but to LIVE?

Most times the ideal situation is two parents under one roof, but let us be honest with ourselves unhappy people cannot raise happy children...or can they...

One Response so far.

  1. People who believe that a child raised by one parent is the worst thing that could happen to a child have never heard about the saying that it takes a village to raise one. They are narrow minded as they prefer to hold on to the notion of isolation rather than look at our Caribbean reality. Besides a child can have multiple go-to adults outside the home. They have role models who are very much engaged in their lives.
Also a child with two unhappy parents can determine in themselves not to live that way. A bad example is still an example. Great topic!
