Independent Woman or Gold Digger?

The more and more I talk to women who are working towards purposeful and successful lives is the more I ask myself, "What's the difference between an independent woman and a gold digger?"

There really isn't much of a difference.

Perhaps the only difference is the level of ambition or should I say 'work ethics'...Hmm I don't know.

An independent woman has set certain goals, there are things she wants to look at and say, "I did that." or "I made/bought that." Such a woman is not the type to sit around and wait for a man to come rescue her...to take her out of her parent's home and make a WOMAN out of her. No. An independent woman is probably a single mother working hard to ensure that her children don't have to do the same, she probably has a degree or three, probably has her own home or is working towards owning a home, her own car, or her own business- no matter the size.

A gold digger on the other hand is working hard to get ahead in life just like anyone else but would much rather a piggy back ride than anything else. She craves all the things an independent woman does but is it safe to say her 'work ethics' are different?

The thing is some independent women crave a piggy back ride also...and the older they get the more they might wish for someone to say, "Baby don't worry, I got you." After a woman has accomplished her major goals it is harder for her to settle for a man who is not her equal or a man who simply brings nothing to the table. She has a child in secondary school, a mortgage  and every monthly bill possible,  if you are her age or above she is probably not looking to you for sex, her main question would be, "Are you going to be another bill, another dependent?"

An independent woman has probably spent the greater part of her life working hard to establish her independence so when it is time to look for a mate she would more than likely aim for someone who has worked even harder than she has, someone whose accomplishments and wealth speak for themselves. Sounds a bit like a gold digger doesn't it?

So then, could a woman be a gold digger if she is bringing her own to the table?
